Balance Bikes
Balance bikes: skip the stabilisers.
A balance bike teaches the genuinely hard part of cycling — balancing — before pedalling even enters the picture. Children who start on one typically ride a pedal bike without stabilisers years earlier, often before their fourth birthday.
The one spec that matters is weight. A toddler cannot steer a bike they can't hold up, which is why our range leads with lightweight aluminium: the Shropshire-designed Shyre Myndie at 3.7kg and the Hoy Weee! at just 3.45kg. Look for a low minimum saddle height (inside leg around 30cm) so feet sit flat on the floor.
Ages & sizing
Typically 18 months to 4 years. Feet must sit flat on the floor with knees slightly bent — check the minimum saddle height against your child's inside leg.
Why weight wins
A 3.5kg balance bike gets picked up, steered and loved. A 6kg one gets abandoned. Aim for under 4kg every time.

About this range +
The number that matters is weight. A toddler can't steer a bike they can't hold up, which is why our range leads with genuinely light aluminium models: the Shropshire-designed Shyre Myndie at 3.7kg (currently £69.99) and the Hoy Weee! at just 3.45kg. Both have kid-proportioned frames and grips, and both are light enough for an 18-month-old to manage — and for you to carry home when they've had enough.
Not sure whether to go balance bike or stabilisers? Our guide on teaching a child to ride settles it. Free UK delivery, 90-day returns, and every bike checked before dispatch.
