Save typically 32–42% through salary sacrifice and pay just £1 to own the bike at the end. GCI charges us a 5% commission, which is added to your quote — and we show it in writing before you apply.

Any bike on the site qualifies. Add a helmet, lock or lights to the same request if you like — safety accessories qualify too. (Kids' bikes aren't eligible under the scheme rules.)

Request a quote from Green Commute Initiative

Email us first and we'll send a written quote — the website price plus GCI's 5% commission, all shown upfront. Then request your GCI application using Discounted Bikes as your bike shop and our quoted total.

Your employer approves & pays

Once the salary-sacrifice agreement is signed, GCI typically issues your voucher within 48 hours.

We build, check and deliver

Your bike is built and safety-checked in our Shrewsbury workshop, then delivered free anywhere in mainland UK — with the same 12-month warranty as any other order.

Why is there a 5% commission — and is it still worth it? Every Cycle to Work provider charges the bike shop a commission, and our prices are already heavily discounted — so rather than raise prices for everyone, we add the provider's commission only to scheme orders, and show it before you apply. The maths still lands firmly in your favour: on a £1,000 bike, the 5% takes your certificate to £1,050 — but salary-sacrifice savings bring a basic-rate taxpayer's real cost to roughly £714, and a higher-rate taxpayer's to roughly £609. Employers: it costs you nothing

If your workplace isn't signed up yet, it's quick and free. Employers reclaim the full cost through salary sacrifice and save around 13.8% in employer National Insurance on top — and because of GCI's FCA-authorised structure, there's no consumer-credit licensing for the employer to worry about. Point whoever runs your payroll at greencommuteinitiative.uk, or ask us and we'll happily talk them through it.

Common questions

Can I use a GCI voucher on sale and clearance bikes?

Vouchers work on every bike on the site. Your quote is the website price at the time of order plus GCI's 5% commission — shown in writing before you apply. Scheme orders can't be combined with additional discount codes or finance offers.

Is there really no £1,000 limit?

Correct. GCI pioneered removing the old cap, which is what makes e-bikes accessible through Cycle to Work. Your employer sets any upper limit they're comfortable with.

Can I add accessories to my voucher?

Yes — helmets, locks, lights, mudguards and other commuting kit can be included in the same GCI request. Just list them alongside the bike.

Do I own the bike at the end?

GCI uses a free extended loan after the initial hire period, and at the end the bike transfers to you for a nominal £1 — with no hidden ownership fees along the way.

Does the bike arrive built?

Every bike we send is built and safety-checked by our Shrewsbury workshop before dispatch — gears indexed, brakes set, everything torqued. You just finish the final touches like pedals and handlebars, following the included guide.
