Dawes Discovery 1.0 Cross Bar Hybrid Bike, Medium (17")

The entry point to the Discovery range, and the one with the widest gear spread — a 3x7 drivetrain with a 28T bottom ring, which means a genuinely low gear for hills or a heavy load. Disc brakes and puncture-protected tyres as standard, which is not a given at this end of the market.

Who it fits

Medium 17" crossbar frame. As a general guide that suits most riders around 5'4" to 5'9", with 19" Large and 21" X Large above it. Prefer a step-through? The Discovery 1.0 Low Step is the same bike in an easier-access frame.

What you're getting

• Gears: Shimano Tourney 3x7 with a 28/38/48T chainset and 11–32T cassette — 21 ratios, so there's always something low enough
• Brakes: 160mm mechanical disc, consistent in the wet and simple to adjust at home
• Frame: lightweight aluminium with a raised head tube for better road visibility, and dropped seat stays to absorb vibration
• Tyres: 40mm wide, puncture protected, with reflective accents for low-light visibility
• Practicalities: front and rear mudguards fitted, mounts for a rear rack, ergonomic bars, lock-on grips and a padded saddle

Stepping up: the Discovery 2.0 simplifies to a 2x8 Altus drivetrain; the 3.0 adds Shimano Cues 2x9 and hydraulic discs.

Delivery and build

Free UK mainland delivery. Bikes ship boxed and part-assembled as standard. Add our professional build and safety check at checkout and a qualified mechanic assembles, adjusts and safety-checks the bike before it leaves — a real workshop job, and entirely optional.
